I got some feedback recently that my signup process was aggravating. I want visitors to double-opt-in to my newsletter to be able to use the advanced features of the site - like comparing affiliate software side-by-side and searching based on features you're looking for.

The problem was that the double-opt-in system is via AWeber and the site registration are separate. The only way I could think of linking the two was to hide the login/registration link and give that out once people subscribed to the newsletter.

Even when they got the "secret link" they still had to register on the site.

This resulted in a 5 step process: sign up, confirm, register on the site, confirm registration, login. 

Now I've made it much easier - you signup for the newsletter, confirm, and you get sent the login and password for a free site account. The login link is also now visible from the main menu.
